Collection note

You will receive a notification as soon as your document is ready for you at the desired collection point. You won't receive a notification if the document is not currently loaned and your collection point matches the location of the book. Additionally, you can check your user account anytime and see if ordered documents are ready for you.

Notification by text message

Receive information via your mobile phone. We will send you a message as soon as the documents are ready for collection.
You can set up this service on the registration form or in your user account.

Delivery of documents

  • Free courier delivery of documents from ETH from the ETH Library by courier for employees staff of ETH Zurich, members of the ETH Alumni Association and members of the ETH Board.
  • Free delivery by courier service to your home regular library, if it is part of the Ausleihverbund. 
  • Delivery by post (chargeable):  Fees 


If you are an employee of ETH Zurich, a member of the ETH Alumni Association and the ETH Board, please be aware that a fee will be charged for the postal delivery of documents from the Zentralbibliothek Zurich and libraries belonging to University of Zurich Fees

Delivery period

  • Within ETH Zurich: 1 hour to 1 day; depending on the location of the document and your collection point.
  • Within NEBIS network: 3 to 5 daysthe national library platform swisscovery: 2 to 4 working days.

You can check your user account under Orders to find out how long the media will be held for you for 7 daysto collect.

Contact the circulation desk before the end expiry of the period for collectioncollection deadline if you would like to extend the deadline.


  • In order to borrow a book, you must present a valid library card.
  • Documents belonging to ETH Library (ETH-BIB, excl. Collections and Archives) and ordered no later than 17.00, may be collected the same day.

Media are issued on presentation of valid user identification.

Postal delivery of documents

If you would like the documents you have ordered to be sent by post, please contact Customer Service at the circulation desk.

Loan Periods


The loan period for borrowed documents will be extended twice automatically, unless they have been reserved. If a document is still not required by other users after then, you can renew it yourself online. Sign in on ETH Library's Search Portal and go to "My Account", to renew the loan period of your documents.

Returning books

Returning at the circulation desk

You can return your documents from the NEBIS circulation network and the Zentralbibliothek Zürich at the circulation desk at ETH Library (exceptions: Museumsgesellschaft MUG and all libraries belonging to University of Zurich).
A confirmation of the return will be issued on request.

Loan periods may vary for certain libraries and holdings.


If the document has not been reserved by another person, five automatic extensions are carried out by the system. Documents can also be extended manually in your user account under ➔Borrowing.

Returning to the circulation desk

Return your documents from all ETH libraries and Zurich Central Library at the circulation desk of an ETH library. Media ordered via the SLSP courier can be returned at any ETH library. Please make sure that the courier sleeve is still on the medium.
A return receipt can be provided on request.

Libraries affiliated with the library platform swisscovery: The libraries that make up the circulation network can be displayed by searching by SLSP courier.

Returning by post

If you would like to return documents by   post, we recommend sending them by registered post.  ETH The ETH Library is does not responsible accept any responsibility for any loss, delay delays or other difficulties which may arise during transportationin transport.
Documents must be handled with care carefully and returned undamaged. The most recent latest borrower will shall be held liable for any damage.
