Master, Bachelor and Semester Theses
The publication or archiving of a Master, Bachelor or Semester Thesis in the Research Collection requires a declaration of consent from the author and the professor or lead researcher to guarantee a.o. that the student's project is worthy of publication and that no third-party claims or any potential obligations of secrecy are violated.

Doctoral Theses
Based on the 2008 Ordinance on Doctoral Studies (Version: 1 November 2013, Art. 34) and the 2013 Implementation Provisions (Sect. 12) and in keeping with ETH Zurich’s Open-Access Policy, doctoral students are obliged to upload the corresponding electronic file of the approved doctoral thesis onto ETH Library’s institutional repository, i.e. that means publishing it via the Research Collection.
If an electronic publication is not possible for copyright or patent-related reasons or due to ongoing applications at research funding institutions, the doctoral student can temporarily be released from the electronic publication obligation upon request. The abstract will be published in any case.
A request for the temporary non-publication of the full text of a doctoral thesis can be placed in the submission process when uploading the electronic file to the Research Collection (cf. Access rights). The doctoral student can choose between an embargo of 12, 24 or 36 months.

Habilitation Theses
The Habilitationsverordnung (Habilitation Ordinance) of ETH Zurich obliges all habilitation students to submit an electronic version that corresponds to the printed version to the ETH Library, i.e. that means publishing it via the Research Collection.
Authors who do not wish to allow global online access to their thesis can indicate this in the Research Collection's submission process by either applying an embargo to their document or by choosing the Closed Access file access mode (cf. Access rights).
