Besides normal document loans from the Network of Libraries and Information Centres in Switzerland (NEBIS), ETH Library also offers the electronic delivery of copies.

Copy delivery service

  • Delivery of electronic copies of articles and chapters from documents via e-mail
  • Files that cannot be sent by e-mail on account of their size (e.g. colour scans) are made available on an FTP server for five days
  • Colour scans are only produced if key information would be lost in a black-and-white scan
  • Delivery time: within twenty-four hours. Orders that come in at the weekend and on bank holidays will be delivered the following working day

Procedure

Domestic customers and as well as staff and doctoral students at ETH Zurich

  • Order on our website
  • If you do not yet have a user account, register in NEBIS: registration form

Customers from abroad (exception: USA and Great Britain)

  • Order the article you desire via the delivery service SUBITO.
  • Deliveries are only made to companies and public libraries, private individuals and students via SUBITO
  • If the article cannot be ordered via SUBITO, contact your university library for an interlibrary loan. We only process requests from university libraries abroad if we receive them by e-mail: document@library.ethz.ch.

Customers from the USA and Great Britain

Conditions

Staff and doctoral students at ETH Zurich

The delivery of documents from ETH Library's holdings is free of charge. (The fees appear on your user account but are not billed.)
Orders will not be effected for copies from documents that are located in ETH Library's holdings and can be placed online via our website. If the holdings are listed in the NEBIS catalogue but by another library, an interlibrary loan needs to be registered.

ETH Board

The electronic delivery of documents from ETH Library’s holdings is free of charge. (The fees appear on your user account but are not billed.)

Private individuals, public institutions, commercial customers

The delivery of documents carries a fee (see  Fees).

We effect orders for copies of up to 100 pages from non-independent documents (incl. journal papers and articles from other collected editions) that can be placed online on our website without further consultation. For this service, we charge additional processing fees.

ETH Alumni

The delivery of documents is free of charge provided that the order is placed via the Alumni Portal. (The fees appear on your user account but are not billed.)

Customers abroad

Electronic deliveries to customers in Germany and non-German-speaking countries are not possible for legal reasons (exception: orders via
SUBITO).

Delivery to Germany is only permitted by mail order.

Order restrictions

A maximum of three articles or chapters will be copied and delivered from printed works such as journals and books, provided that this volume does not constitute more than a third of the journal or book.

An order needs to be submitted to the Document Delivery Office for every article or chapter requested. This must not exceed a maximum of 100 pages. Only complete journal papers/book chapters will be delivered.

Both the dispatch of copies and the billing take place for each order placed.
Fax deliveries are only possible up to a volume of thirty pages.

Articles or chapters from purely electronic holdings at ETH Library:
These can only be delivered if the supplier’s licence agreement does not exclude the sending of documents. An order will therefore only be accepted once this has been verified.

The following documents are excluded from a copy delivery:

  • Maps
  • Books from special holdings, e.g. Rare Books (there is the possibility of ordering copies via E-book on demand)
  • Archival holdings

  • No labels
